Students of Franklin High School went to the annual homecoming dance on October 18th, 2025, reveling in the food, vibing to the music and hanging out with their friends. Students dressed up as their representation of the theme "Grammys" that the student council has chosen. They voted for the Queen , Princess, King, and Prince based on their grade level. They campaigned for themselves at school, hanging up posters, giving out candy, and taking pictures with different props.

Homecoming at Franklin is a way to bring the school together, and to give teenagers something to look forward to. With the stresses of school just starting, it’s good to have a fun night with friends.
Homecoming is usually a week-long, annual fall tradition in high schools that celebrates school spirit and community. At Franklin there’s a spirit week where students dress up according to the theme leading up to homecoming. On the following Saturday those who want to go to Homecoming will put on their best outfit and present themselves as the theme "Grammys". Class council comes out with the theme and sets up spirit week.
We interviewed a student by the name of Isis Kelly who rated the Homecoming dance a 7/10 because she “had fun but certain things would've made it better”, which threw off some of her fun and enjoyment that she had at the dance. Ryan McHale also rated homecoming a 7/10. He said that he ”had fun and enjoyed [himself] but I would’ve made it a 10 if there were more people there”. So, I feel like the next homecoming they need to advertise things that intrigue people's interest.

We asked Miles Cherette, a member of the Senior Class council, a series of questions about Homecoming.
1. What went into planning Homecoming ?
"We had to sell tickets (which was the biggest thing, figure out a theme that would attract people and some wouldn’t view as lame, and we had to ensure that we have everything that we need food wise, decorations, and services (like DJ and photo booth)."
2. How did you come up with the theme for Homecoming ?
"We decided the options amongst a council and held a little vote among the class during our senior assembly."
3. What were your biggest budget expenses, where did the money for homecoming come from?
"The biggest expense was the food, DJ, and photo booth. We had money in our account to put a down payment but we had to sell enough tickets to pay for it all (which we did)"
4. Is this your first time planning an event, if so how was it ?
"This isn’t our first event but it's our first WHOLE school HUGE event. We’ve planned movie nights, fundraisers, and pep rallies!!"
5. What was your preplanning process ?
"We come together as a council, discuss what we want to accomplish, split up the tasks, and figure out how to execute the vision. There are a lot of different departments that work together such as finance, social media, and the safety aspect of the event."
6. How far in advance did you have to start planning ?
"We started planning for hoco end of our junior year."
7. Was planning homecoming a stressful process for you and your council?
“It wasn’t really stressful because we all had our roles and as long as we did what we needed to do, we were good! Planning is what we all signed up to do so it’s actually kind of fun to actually take part!”
As you can see, planning homecoming isn't an easy thing to do, it takes a lot of time, work and dedication if you really want to do something. They couldn't procrastinate because there were many things that went into planning Homecoming. This was honestly the class council's first large, school-wide event that they held. The planning started Junior year, and the process of homecoming involved dividing tasks among the council members for things like finances, social media and safety. Myles stated that the experience wasn’t stressful because everyone had clear roles and enjoyed the planning process. Planning homecoming was something that they all agreed to and found rewarding once it all came together.
Overall, I would say Homecoming was a success. Many enjoyed their time & were still talking about the event after hand, and everyone came together to show their school spirit & enjoy the events. The decorations, music, and energy made it a memorable night for everyone who attended.
