Recent Iranian Protests

Written by: Maxwell A. Ferguson

In recent days, many people in Iran have been protesting in public places to speak against the government and demanding more rights and freedom. These examples have begun in 2022 and continued on and off , circulating through social media and gossip in spite of strict government rules. The protests have been in huge cities, with many children and women participating, even though such protests are highly illegal.

The protest began after a 22 year old female of the name of Mahsa Amini (pictured below) had passed away

while in custody of Iranian police. People have faith that her death was strongly up in cities like Tehran to cry out for change. As time passed, these protests began to grow and become communities. The protest became more about broader issues such as women's rights and freedom of speech.

To know more about the situation I asked my history teacher, Mr. Sorg his thoughts. He explained that protests like these often start when people feel like their rights and freedom are heavily threatened or limited. “ Throughout history, when citizens believe their voices are not being heard, they demand change,” Mr. Sorg Explained. He included how governments respond to the protest and the outrage can shape how other countries see it.

The protests in Iran have drawn widespread attention across the globe, and people are still watching to see how the situation will develop.
