After an astounding first reveal trailer, Director Danny Boyle's next blockbuster film takes the trophy for most viewed horror movie trailer of all time. After about 18 years since the last film, 28 weeks later directed by Juan Carlos Fersnadillo, one of the most popular zombie franchises returns with a bang for a third movie in the title series. Audiences now wait patiently for the motion picture’s release date, June 20th 2025, and the film's promising debut. Some would think that after such a large break between films, that some hype may have died down for the series, but instead, it created an even bigger uproar upon announcement. Especially after a huge lack of zombie-flicks in recent years, it's safe to say that 28 Years Later is a welcome addition to the genre. One zombie-lovers are itching to see.
Not only that, but 28 Years Later hosts a few familiar faces among their cast. With the likes of well known, seasoned actors, including Ralph Fiennes, known for his performances in Schindler's List (1993) and The Menu (2022). Along with him, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who also tackles a big role in the film, hopefully, it turns out better than Kraven (2024). The rest of the cast, although with smaller names, features Jodie Connor, Edvin Ryding, Erin Kellyman, and more. Overall, the cast looks strong, and will hopefully put on a good performance that will strengthen the film. Additionally, Academy Award winner, Danny Boyle, is returning to direct this film, having done the first, but was replaced by Fersnadilo for the sequel. A good portion of fans are excited to see his return, and fingers crossed, he will deliver the series another strong installment.
28 Years Later is set to be one of the biggest releases in horror movie history, with buzz from all kinds of fandoms. From the dark, ominous themes, and beautifully terrifying landscapes shown in the trailer, there are very few not excited for what's to come. A student at Franklin High School, when asked about the film said this, “I think the long gap between this film and the last is interesting because it gives the story time to evolve and explore how everything has changed, but it also makes me wonder if the wait will live up to the hype.”(Jaden Flores, Senior). This opinion is one common among the many film enjoyers waiting patiently for this release. So in the end, the main concerns are, will it be as good as the others? Will it live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but hopefully, a monumental movie is on the horizon.
