Club Highlights: Medtech | Speech & Debate Potluck

Written by: Ava Cespedez

The Franklin High School MedTech Club meets every week on Thursdays. Students interested in health and medical careers come together to learn real skills and explore what it's really like to work in the medical field.

This club is perfect for students who are interested in the medical field or just want to learn more about how the human body works. MedTech gives students a chance to explore real skills they might use in future medical careers like nursing, sports medicine, and emergency care.

The club also brings in guest speakers: Nurses, EMTs, and medical students. The guests talk about their jobs, share personal stories, and give advice about classes and college. For many students, hearing from real professionals makes the medical field feel more possible and less intimidating. It also helps them see that other career paths exist, from sports medicine and emergency care to laboratory work.

One thing that makes MedTech stand out is how welcoming it is; you don't need any experience to join. Everyone learns together, and the club leaders make sure students feel comfortable trying new skills. Many students say the club helped them figure out if they want to work in healthcare in the future. Members help each other during activities and enjoy working together as a team.

Overall, MedTech is an exciting and educational club at Franklin High School. It teaches students real-world skills, helps them explore career options, and gives them a chance to help others.

Founded less than 2 years ago by seniors Kayla Clark and Lola Raji during the 24'-25' school year, the Franklin High School's Speech and Debate club hosted its monthly potluck this December. Their potlucks are opportunities for students to join a community and make new connections. Food and snacks were served, accompanied with fun games and activities run by President Noah Jones.

This is the club's way of getting students engaged with one another. Making new connections to all different types of students is an essential part of the high school experience. Speech and Debate is a great opportunity to come outside of your comfort zone and try something new for change.

While talking to Noah Jones, President of Speech and Debate club, he said that he was "proud to become the new president of Speech and Debate this year, and this year [he aims] to bring even more people to the club.”

Like the December potluck, the November potluck was also a success and brought the club many new members. The theme of the November potluck was Thanksgiving. Everyone went around sharing their favorite Thanksgiving dish and debated on why or why not its a valid opinion.

You won't want to miss out on the next potluck! See you there Franklin!
