The 2024 Oscars was full of many amazing things and fans were in for a surprise. It took place on Sunday, March 10th, 2024 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, and the host of the 2024 Oscars was none other than the talk show host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Jimmy Kimmel. The Oscar is an award that is granted to the best movies/actors of the year. Because of how prestigious this award is, many amazing actors were hoping to get their hands on this amazing honor.

As always, Hollywood’s biggest night will celebrate the top films, performances, and achievements in cinema from the previous year.

With a whole lot of competition this Oscars compared to others, many fans were in for a surprise, especially with the amount of major blockbusters and standout indie films in the spotlight. The 2024 Oscars were set to be an exciting and unpredictable event. Films like “Oppenheimer”, “Barbie”, and “Killers of the Flower Moon” were among the top contenders for Best Picture, pooling together a very competitive matchup. One of the most talked-about films that year was “Oppenheimer”, directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie, which focuses on the creation of the atomic bomb and its consequences, has been praised for its intense storytelling and Cillian Murphy’s powerhouse performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Nolan’s work is widely expected to earn him a nomination for Best Director, as his ability to handle complex narratives and create cinematic masterpieces continues to earn critical acclaim. However, Greta Gerwig, who made waves with her anticipated hit “Barbie”, is also a strong contender. What many initially thought would be a fun, lighthearted film has turned into a deeply insightful exploration of identity, feminism, and culture. Gerwig’s main direction could earn her a well-deserved spot in the Best Director race. Other notable directors in the conversation include Martin Scorsese, whose “Killers of the Flower Moon” explores the Osage murders and the birth of the FBI. Along with him, Wes Anderson, came out with a unique visual style in “Asteroid City”.

In the acting categories, the competition is just as fierce. Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Oppenheimer is likely to land him a Best Actor nomination, and many consider him a frontrunner for the award. His intense performance has earned widespread praise, making him one of the top picks for the statue. In the Best Actress category, Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the iconic Barbie could earn her a first nomination after years of strong performances. Her take on the character was both playful and thought-provoking, making “Barbie” much more than just a toy-based film. Other possible nominees for Best Actress include Emma Stone for her role in “Poor Things”, a film that blends dark comedy and fantasy in a way only Stone can pull off.

The Supporting Actor and Actress categories are also shaping up to be competitive. Robert Downey Jr  is a likely nominee for Best Supporting Actor. His performance has been praised as one of his best, showcasing a more complex side to the actor known for his larger-than-life roles. On the other side, Dolly De Leon, whose breakout performance in “Triangle of Sadness” has earned her rave reviews, could secure a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her portrayal of a worker who takes control in a survival situation is a powerful and surprising turn that stands out in a film full of complex characters.

Streaming platforms continue to influence the Oscar race, with Netflix and Apple TV+ making a strong impact in 2024. “The Killer” on Netflix and “Killers of the Flower Moon” on Apple TV+ were expected to be major players in this year’s awards. As streaming services grow, the lines between theatrical and digital releases are becoming increasingly blurred, and the Oscars are taking notice. The shift in how films are distributed and consumed means more platforms will be looking for top spots in categories like Best Picture and Best Director. The 2024 Oscars will also be interesting in terms of the ceremony itself.

As the date drew closer, predictions for the 2024 Oscars were already flooding in. While it’s impossible to know exactly who will take home the golden statuettes, there’s no doubt this year will offer surprises, snubs, and memorable moments. From the big-budget blockbusters to the smaller indie hits, 2024 promises to be a night that honors the creativity and talent that define the film industry. The Oscars continue to be an event that showcases the best of cinema, and this year’s ceremony will certainly be one to watch.
