G20 Declaration Focuses on Fairness

Written by: Maxwell Ferguson

The G20 Leaders Summit took place in South Africa, and world leaders cooperated and agreed on a major declaration . This was the first G20 meeting ever held in Africa, which made it much more important for many. The declaration focused on supporting and developing countries and promoting equality across all the nations.

One of the biggest topics in the meeting was help for countries who may be struggling with debt. The leaders said they want to improve global economic systems so struggling countries can get relief faster. This was most important for many African countries.

To understand this declaration better, I interviewed my history teacher Mr. Sorg. I asked him, “Why does this declaration matter?” He answered saying “it matters because finally bigger powers are paying attention and caring for smaller and more struggling countries that need it.”

The declaration also stated topics about peace and stability. This was a mention to all the wars and conflicts happening right now. Leaders called for solutions to conflicts in active places like Ukraine, Sudan, and the Middle East. They talked about working together with organizations like NATO.

Another crucial point was gender equality. The consensus was that there should be more women involvement in leadership opportunities and more protections for women facing violence and standing against discrimination. They all agreed that gender equality is crucial for stronger communities.

Overall, the declaration showed that many countries want to work together to solve global problems.
