It’s only November but many have already gotten into the Christmas spirit! An early dose comes with the movie, Last Christmas, featuring Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians actor Henry Golding as the leads; came out on November 8th and has already earned $22.6 million.
Last Christmas follows Kate, a frustrated Londoner, whose family escaped as refugees from Yugoslavia when she was young, and who now works in a Christmas shop. As in most romantic movies, she meets a handsome stranger who teaches her how to live life to the fullest and to see the beautiful world around her. But what veiwers are not expecting is that’s not the end there’s actually a big twist.
Both Emilia Clarke and Henry Goulding play their leading parts to perfection showing charisma and charm in each shot. This movie is fast paced, but takes time to emphasize strong moments- like the scene when the protagonist, Kate has surgery.
Last Christmas was widely advertised on the platform: Youtube. Its soundtrack, including a new version of the song ‘Last Christmas,’originally composed by Goerge Michael, has become popular.
This movie was marketed as a romantic comedy, but is actually more geared towards empowering women trying to find their own independence and joy. This movie shows self-love, instead of the normal romcom storyline, which is actually quite refreshing.
