A wide range of fans who enjoy the popular Shrek movies have been showing serious backlash towards the new trailer teasing Shrek 5. Many believe that the characters do not look the same as they used to and that the new animation is unsettling and vastly different than what they know and love. Shrek 5 is set to release in theaters on December 23, 2026, and a vast majority hope that there is still a chance for the creators to change the animation around so the characters can look the same as they did in the other 4 movies in this franchise.

The new teaser trailer for Shrek 5 has caused a lot of fans to react negatively because of the changes to the animation and character designs. In the trailer, Shrek and Fiona are shown as older parents, which has surprised many viewers. Some fans are unhappy with how the characters look, saying their new faces seem strange. Many hope the studio will listen to these reactions and change the designs before the movie comes out. This situation reminds some people of what happened with Sonic the Hedgehog in 2019, when fans didn’t like the first version of the character’s design, and the movie producers had to redo it. Some Shrek fans are hoping the same happens here.

The trailer also introduces a new character, Felicia, Shrek and Fiona's teenage daughter, voiced by Zendaya. Some people have started to wonder if Felicia could be a transgender character, which has added more discussion around the film. Even with the backlash, some fans are still excited about the new direction of the movie. Zendaya’s casting has been well received, and many people are looking forward to seeing her in the role of Felicia. Shrek 5 is scheduled to release in 2026, and it’s unclear if the studio will make changes based on fans' reactions.
