Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment have officially announced the Super Mario Galaxy movie, the highly anticipated animated sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Super Mario

Bros. The movie will premiere worldwide in April 2026. The announcement confirms that the film will be distributed by Universal Pictures across multiple international markets.
The movie draws inspiration from Nintendo’s popular Super Mario Galaxy video game series and will take audiences on an interstellar adventure beyond the mushroom kingdom. The story follows Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad as they journey across several planets to confront Bowser and his son, Bowser Jr. while also introducing major characters such as Yoshi and Rosalina, who will both be making their first cinematic appearance.
The original voice cast returns, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser. New cast members include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return as directors, with Matthew Fogel serving as screenwriter and Brian Tyler composing the score.
Trailers released earlier this year highlight visually stunning galactic settings, fast-paced action, and classic video game elements adapted for the big screen. Industry experts predict strong box office performance, citing the continued popularity of the Mario franchise and the success of it’s predecessor.
Producers have emphasized that the film aims to appeal to both longtime fans and younger audiences, combining nostalgia with modern storytelling. With it’s planned release coinciding with celebrations marking over 40 years of the Super Mario franchise, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to be one of 2026’s most significant animated releases.
