Highlights of the 75th Emmy Awards

Aira informs readers about the nominations for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards


As we enter into a new year, comes annual award shows beginning with the 75th Emmy Awards. The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards or the Emmy Awards for short, awards primetime (shows that aired during the night) television by nominating shows, actors, and other nominations. The Emmy Awards scheduled to air on January 15th, 2024 broadcasted by Fox, taking place in the Peacock Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, California. 


Nominees for the 75th Emmy Awards were announced via virtual broadcast on July 12, 2023 hosted by actress Yvette Nicole Brown and Frank Scherma, who’s part of the Television Academy committee. There were many nominations for TV shows and actors, but also for writing and directing as well. (There is a separate award show that nominated the behind the scenes of shows called the Creative Arts Emmy Awards) This includes many shows like Abbott Elementary, Succession, Wednesday, The Last of Us, and other shows to be nominated. HBO’s Succession, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus received the most nominations, respectively receiving 27, 24, and 23 total nominations. 


According to Entertainment Weekly, “actors receive commendations for the very first time, including Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Debicki, Taron Egerton, Jenna Ortega, Pedro Pascal, Steven Yeun, Jeremy Allen White, Aubrey Plaza, and Bella Ramsey.” The Last of Us’s actor, Keivonn Montreal Woodard is the second youngest and deaf actor to be nominated for an Emmy. There were also snubs, which means actors and shows who didn’t get nominated, according to E! News, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power “ was shut out from the major categories, including acting, directing and series.” This was one of the many snubs that fans were disappointed with for shows and actors who didn’t get nominated.


There are many predictions of which shows and actors would or should win an Emmy, predictions of possible Emmy winners goes from shows like Succession, Abbott Elementary, The Last of Us, and many other shows that were nominated. There are also predictions too for actors, like Pedro Pasual, Quinta Brunson, James Marshen, Melanie Lynskey, etc. These are just predictions, some might be right, some might be wrong, but overall unpredictable.
